Massage Classes

We all love to receive a massage or even just a really good hug to make us feel relaxed and cared for. Children are no different. Primarily kinaesthetic learners, touch is an extremely important aspect of learning and communication for them, as well as providing a wonderful feeling of love and safety. Massage provides a great opportunity for touch that is not purely functional e.g. dressing, washing, changing nappies, as well as relaxed one-on-one time with your child.

There are many benefits of receiving massage, other than the obvious ones above, which can be divided into four main categories:

Interaction
including the promotion of bonding and secure attachment, verbal and non-verbal communication, using all of the senses, and loving physical contact with both parents
Stimulation of the circulatory, digestive, hormonal, immune, lymphatic, nervous, respiratory and vestibular (co-ordination and balance) systems, muscular development and tone, and mind/body awareness
Relief can be provided for gas and colic, constipation and elimination, gastrointestinal cramps, excess mucus, growing pains, muscular tension, teething discomfort, calming the nervous system, sensitivity to touch, physical and psychological tension, and softening of dry skin
Relaxation may be demonstrated by improved sleep patterns, regulation of behaviour, being calm and the reduction of stress levels and stress hormones

You will also benefit from giving massage. The positive interaction experienced between you and your child during massage is a wonderful feeling. You will develop new ways of reading and respecting their ways of communicating with you, as well as feeling confident and relaxed together. Siblings can also help massage each other, increasing love and respect and a relaxed home environment.
